Dedicated to the participants in the
Battle of Peachtree Creek
July 20, 1864
On this 80th anniversary of the first of four conflicts for the possession of Atlanta.

Dedicated by the Atlanta Historical Society 1944.

Inscription on the rear of the monument:
At this point about 4:30 P. M. The Battle of Peachtree Creek began with confederate troops of Bate’s, Walker’s and Maney’s Division of Lt. Gen. W. J. Hardee’s Corps attacked Newton’s Division of the Federal Fourth Corps Maj. Gen. O. O. Howard, commanding. The conflict ranged westward to Howell Mill Road with successive assaults by confederate forces of Loring’s and of Walthall’s Division of Lt. Gen. A. P. Stewart’s Corps upon the Divisions of Ward, Geary, and Williams of the Federal Twentieth Corps, Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker, Commanding.

Location of the monument:
This monument is Not visible from the road. It is located at N 33° 48.120  W 84° 23.640. Map it

Parking is available on Brighton Rd, Atlanta, GA .
Peachtree Road is a major road. There is a lot of paid packing in the area.


To reach this monument:
This monument was on the top of the hill in front of Piedmont Hospital, on the west side of Peachtree Road. It is not known if the monument was moved to a new location before construction began on at its original location.








Condition of the monument:
The condition of the monument was first reported on 9/1/2017.

It is currently in storage due to construction, but will be reinstalled on the hospital’s private property in 2020. (Gould B. Hagler)
