About 4 p.m., assisted by Williamson's Brigade on its left, with the 27th Missouri as skirmishers, it forced its way through the Gap, which was defended by a part of Clayton's Brigade with four guns, and turned north along the eastern base of the Ridge, finally charging obliquely to the summit, capturing many prisoners, and bivouacking here.
