1. Carlin's Brigade Tablet
Inscription:
Carlin's Brigade.
Davis' Division - McCook's Corps.
Brigadier General William P. Carlin.
September 19, 1863. 2 p.m. - 1st Position
21st Illinois
Colonel John W.S. Alexander.
38th Illinois
Lieutenant Colonel Daniel H. Gilmer.
81st Indiana
Captain Nevil B. Boone.
Major James E. Calloway.
101st Ohio
Lieutenant Colonel John Messer.
Major Bedan B. McDanald.
2nd Minnesota Battery
Lieutenant Albert Woodbury.
Lieutenant Richard L. Dawley.
The Brigade arrived on this ground from Crawfish Springs about 1p.m. and formed line of battle having Heg's Brigade on its left, and two regiments of Wilder's Brigade of mounted Infantry on its right. It moved forward at once, crossed the LaFayette Road and attacked the enemy in the field east of Viniard's. The 21st Illinois was sent to the support of Heg's Brigade on the left, and the 81st Indiana was detached to support the artillery of the Division. The entire Brigade was hotly engaged, several times repulsing the enemy, and being in turn repulsed, but finally regained its position at the road until relieved by Bradley's Brigade of Sheridan's Division about 4 p.m. The Brigade then withdrew into the edge of the forest west of Viniard's and bivouacked.
