Inscription on the rear of the monument:
Sept. 19, 1863, Battery I, 14th U.S. Artillery
1st Lieut. F.G. Smith, Com'd'g of the 3rd Brig., 3rd Div., 14th Corps. was engaged on the Reed's Bridge Road a mile east of the McDonald House, from about 7:30 A.M. until afternoon. On Sept. 20, 1863, it occupied positions on Snodgrass Hill throughout the day, being repeatedly engaged.

Comments about this monument:
This marker built was in 1893. It is 6’ wide x 4' deep x 6' high; the marker is a rectangular block of Smooth-finished monument has double-step base and hipped top. Front has bas relief of crossed cannon tubes within a laurel wreath. Unit designation in raised letters above & below relief; of crossed cannon barrels surrounded by laurel.
