Location of the monument:
This monument is Not visible from the road. It is located at N 34° 54.0457  W 85° 15.3362. Map it

Parking is available on Viniard Road near  N 34° 54.0797  W 85° 15.3599 .
Gravel Parking area on the south side of the road.


To reach this monument:
From the parking area on Viniard Road follow the path south. The path will fork, take the right (east) path. A second path will branch off to the right (east). Follow this path. This path is just before the plaque for Kelly's Brigade (CSA). Near the site of the Hall house, a path will be on your right. Follow this path to the marker for the 123rd Illinois Infantry.

Comments about this monument:
This is a standard Illinois unit monument. It is 7'6" x 4'4" x 4'6" high rock-faced monument consisting of rectangular granite block with an inscribed polished front on granite base. The tops of both pieces are beveled. The monument was erected in 1899. Marks unit's position from Sept. 18, 7:00 p.m. to Sept. 19, 4:00 a.m.
