On moving from the Dyer field Beatty’s Brigade formed line at right angles to this road facing North. His left was soon advanced to the high ground near the McDonald House and immediately became engaged. General Negley hastened with Stanley’s brigade to the support of Beatty then being forced back and at once became engaged on the right of Beatty in the woods west of the Kelly field both brigades facing North. Sirwell’s brigade upon being relieved near Brotherton’s at 10 A.M. was ordered to support the left of Beatty but before joining him was ordered to Snodgrass Ridge.
