Reserve Corps.

Inscription on the rear of the monument:

To the Memory of 131 Killed, Wounded and missing of the 113th Regiment Ohio Infantry.

Sept. 20th, 1863, the left center of Mitchell’s Brigade, Steedman’s Division.

This position was gained by assault about 2:00 P. M. and held against all attacks until the Army retired at sundown.

This monument is Not visible from the road. It is located at N 34° 55.614  W 85° 16.416. Map it

Parking is available on Snodgrass Field Road off of Vittetoe Road near  N 34° 55.6517  W 85° 16.1244 .


To reach this monument:
From the parking area on Snodgrass Hill, head west pass the monuments on the hilltop. A trail will continue to the west near the 87th Indiana and the 2nd Minnesota monuments.

Comments about this monument:
This monument was built in 1894. C. H. Niehaus was the sculptor and E. F. Carr Co., of Quincy, MA, was the Architect. The monument is a 12' polished granite obelisk on 6'8" square rock-faced base. Pedestal features acorn carved in relief; shaft has raised lettering front and bronze tablet rear, set off by moldings of bundled fasces.
