The grave markers in this small cemetery are just simple stones. Only one stone has any marking on it. Many of the Dyer family members are buried in the Chickamauga Cemetery.

The 1850 census shows Robert. H. Dyer and Fenn Dyer, both age 42 living in dwelling number 92, Walker, Georgia, USA. His land is valued at 1400. Other household members listed are:

Elizabeth Dyer, female, age 17, born in TN
W. L. Dyer, male, age 14, born in TN
Leah A Dyer, female, age 12, born in TN
Nancy Dyer, female, age 10, born in TN

James J. Dyer, male, age 20, Mechanic (Robert’s Brother), born in TN


The 1850 census shows John C. Dyer, age 21 living in dwelling number 91, Walker, Georgia, USA. His land is valued at 1400. The value of his real estate is not shown. Other household members listed are:
Oliva Dyer, female, age 17, born in GA
Elizabeth Dyer, female, age 17, born in TN (wonder if same Elizabeth as the one listed in Robert’s household??)


The 1850 census shows James Dyer, age 40 living in dwelling number 1500, Walker, Georgia, USA. James is listed as a Blacksmith. Other household members listed are:

Civil War.
Spile Dyer enlisted on Sept. 17, 1861 in Knoxville, TN, and served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Co. H, 37th Tennessee, Infantry, Confederate (source, muster roll, FOLD3).

During the battler of Chickamauga, John Dyer, was conscripted by Gen. Rosecrans to serve as a guide. (source: History of Walker County Georgia written by James A Sartain, published in 1932)

View, looking east, toward the Dyer Cemetery. All of the headstones are small upright rocks. I was only able to find one stone with anything carved into it.

This monument is Not visible from the road. It is located at N 34° 55.0612  W 85° 16.382. Map it

Parking is available on Dyer Road near  N 34° 55.020   W 85° 16.380
Side of road.

To reach this monument:
Marker can be reached from Dyer Road east of Chickamauga-Vittetoe Road when traveling west. This marker is located in the Chickamauga Chattanooga National Military Park along a park trail that crosses the Dry Road near coordinates (N 34.917 W 85.273). Park along the side of the road. Follow the path north to the small Dyer cemetery.
