At 9 o'clock September 20th this Brigade, then in position on the slope west of this tablet, was sent forward with Dick's Brigade on its left to the next ridge east of this point. Thence both brigades were ordered forward to the main line. Upon reaching Brannan's position which was in the western edge of the Poe field this Brigade was involved in the break at that point, run over by one of Brannan's, fragments of all the regiments of the Brigade were rallied at Snodgrass Hill, where they fought until the close of the battle. Strength in action, September 19th, 1384 officers and men.

Casualties in the two days: killed 16; wounded 254; missing 61; total 331. Percentage of loss 23.99.;

This monument is visible from the road. It is located at N 34° 55.150  W 85° 16.438. Map it

Parking is available on Chickamauga-Vittatoe Road


To reach this monument:
Marker is on Chickamauga-Vittatoe Road south of Lytle Road, on the left when traveling south. This marker is located in the national park that preserves the site of the Chickamauga Battlefield, along one of the park's roadways that runs north to south, in the extreme western end of the park.

Comments about this monument:
The plaques on the Chickamauga Battlefield were installed by the War Department in 1890. This plaque is blue indicating it is for a Federal unit. Plaques are listed in the NPS List of Classified Structures as a batch input, Structure Number HS-Batch-3.
