Inscription:
18th Battery,
Ohio Light Artillery,

1st. Brigade, 1st Division.
Reserve Corps.

Inscription on the rear of the monument:
Mon
;
This battery, Capt. Charles C. Aleshire
commanding, moved with the brigade
Sept. 18th. 1863, engaging the enemy
on the road leading from Rossville
to Ringgold. Was in position near
McAfee's Church till 10:00 A.M.
Sept. 20th, when it followed the
brigade to the battle field.
Late in the afternoon, one section
went into action at this point
and assisted in repelling the
last assault of the
enemy on this part of the line.
Loss, 2 officers, and 10 men
wounded.

This monument is visible from the road. It is located at N 34° 55.800  W 85° 15.997. Map it

Parking is available on Vittetoe Rd near  N 34° 55.758   W 85° 16.074


To reach this monument:
To view this monument drive to the parking area in front of the Snodgrass House (tour stop 8) and the monument can be seen situated just to the east of the Snodgrass House.

This monument is recorded in the National Park Service database as structure MT-938.




Comments about this monument:
This monument was built in 1894. The 5'6" x 4'3" x 8'6", the monument has a tapered rock-faced pedestal, a smooth-faced shaft with raised lettering, and a rock-faced capstone. Bronze state seal in pedestal; bronze cannon tubes on sides. A bronze plaque on the rear of the monument describes the action of the battery during the battle. Marks unit's position on Snodgrass Hill.
