How you can Contribute to CWBFM

Purpose of the Civil War Battlefield Monuments site

The goal of this site is to not only document all of the markers located on the National Battlefields but also those monuments that stand hidden on our city streets. This site does not include the monuments that can be found in many city squares that are dedicated to all those that fought and served during the American Civil War, but rather those monuments that are dedicated to specific battles, whether that monument is located on a National Battlefield, along the roadside, or hidden on one of our city streets.

How the site is organized

Each monument will be listed under the battle that the monument commemorates. To find, or add, a new monument:

  1. From the home page, click on “Battle”.
  2. A list of all of the battles that have been accepted by CWBFM will be displayed.
  3. The list will be sorted by the name of the battle. You can change the sort order by clicking on the column heading to sort by the state where the battle occurred, the date the battle began, or change the sort order from ascending to descending.
  4. Click on the name of the battle to display the battle detail page. All of the monuments, cannons and other information that CWBFM maintains for the battle will be accessible from the battle details page.

Adding a Battle

  1. From the home page, click on “Battle”.
  2. A list of all the battles that have been accepted by CWBFM will be displayed.
  3. The list will be sorted by the name of the battle. You can change the sort order by clicking on the column heading to sort by the state where the battle occurred, the date the battle began, or change the sort order from ascending to descending.
  4. Check to see if your battlefield has already been submitted. If it has, follow the link to the battlefield. Once there, you can add monuments, cannons, books about the battle or add any missing information about the monument.
  5. If the battlefield has not been submitted to CWBFM, then select “Add a new battle” and fill in the form. If you need help, click on the “Help” link on the “Enter a new battle” page. Once you have filled in the form select submit at the bottom of the page. The information you entered will be saved to our database and then the battlefield details page will display. Look over your submission. If you need to make any corrections/changes, select “edit” and the edit page will be displayed.
  6. Once you have added the battle and it has been accepted, you can add:
